The Kettering Youth Leadership Academy (KYLA) gives students experience in public speaking, helps to develop planning and decision making skills and helps them learn how to work in groups. It provides volunteer opportunities that they take back to their school and ways to get involved in Kettering.
The KYLA program, helps the students to become more confident leaders within their community so that they may strive both in Kettering and in classrooms with this opportunity. We focus on the “40 Developmental Assets” according to the Search Institute in every thing that we do throughout the year. (Please see the “40 Development Assets section of our website.)
KYLA is available for students in the 6th – 11th grade. This program is on a calendar year. This allows students to transition through a new school year. The applications for the program go out min-November into the schools and are returned before winter break. Students interested should go to the Main Office for applications. The Schools choose the representatives from their school, and the program begins in January.
